Roulette is played with the numbers 1 to 36 and 0. 0 does not belong to the numbers and therefore does not form part of the outside bets, dozens or columns (which dozens and columns becomes immediately obvious).
Figure 1 Different possibilities In the table below you can find the terms and numbers corresponding with the letters in the figure above (figure 1). As you can see roulette knows 17 different possibilities. If you win, your payout varies from 2 to 36 times your bet. Off course also your chances of winning varies per possibility.
Payout A 1-18 (low numbers) 1 t/m 18 2 x your bet
Below you’ll find the different changes per possibility..
Win chance Payout Expected value
It looks like your chances of winning are highest is you do a simple bet. (even / odd / red / black). That’s true, but the payout is less. At all possibilities the expectationvalue is the same, -0. 027. In other words, the profit expectation is always 1/37 th part of every bet.
With every game strategy probability distribution of profit is given. At roulette, every game strategy leads to the same expectation. There is no difference between the player who deliberately puts his chips on the table and the player who bets blindly. In roulette, the game result is not affected: it is a pure game of chance.
Not entirely: Some strategies like doubling your bet at each cycle have a higher payout.
It works like this. Imagine you bet every round simple (even / odd / red / black). Your chances of winning is 18/37. Every time you lose you double your bet. The cycle ends when a round is won. In the end you’ll always win double your bet.
Most casinos prevent this strategy by simply forbidding it, or by maximizing the bet per round.
Good luck playing the game of Roulette!
